FINALLY GOOD WEATHER
And More Penguins
1st January | 2023
This morning I got up again around 5am to see if I can see some whales. It was a very cold wind out there, no whales or anything else interesting, so I went back to bed.
After breakfast, we crossed the Neuymayer-Channel in fantastic weather conditions: blue sky & sunshine! These snowcapped mountains looked so majestic. The good weather makes a huge difference! And of course, we saw again some humpback whales in the far distance.
In the afternoon, we will have the chance to get to Port Lockroy to see more penguins. We were taken again in small groups in the zodiacs. A small souvenir shop also finances the protection of this island and other historic places in Antarctica. It is also adjacent to a little museum, where you can see, how they lived a century ago.
Due to weather conditions in the Drake Passage, we would not again go through the Neuymayer-Channel. The destination is now/already Ushuaia in Argentina.
In the last blog next week you will find out how we went on through the famous Drake Passage. How about a Ginger Ale in the meantime?
